Frequently Asked Questions
Everything You Need to Know
Answers to the most common questions about ordering, pricing, shipping, specifications, and more.
Ordering & Pricing
Our base rate for rough cut Douglas Fir is $4.25 per board foot. Free of Heart Center (FOH) adds $125/bf. All pricing is FOH (Free on Hook) at our Arlington, WA mill — freight is quoted separately. See our full pricing page for live edge slab pricing by species.
We have no formal minimum order. However, for very small orders (under 100 bf), freight cost per board foot may be high — local pickup from our Arlington, WA yard is the most economical option for small orders. For large volume orders (10 MBF+), contact us for volume pricing.
Use our online shop configurator to build your order and submit a quote request, or call us at 425.210.9884. We respond to all quote requests within one business day. For complex or large orders, we typically respond within a few hours.
Yes. Volume discounts are available for orders above 5 MBF (5,000 board feet). Lumberyard and dealer accounts are welcome — contact us to discuss Net-30 terms and tiered MBF pricing.
Our rough cut timber pricing is published on our pricing page. For live edge slabs, pricing varies by species, dimension, and current inventory. Call or submit a quote request for specific slab pricing.
Timber Specifications
Our primary species is Coast Douglas Fir — the premier structural timber of the Pacific Northwest. We also mill Western Red Cedar, Big Leaf Maple, Spalted Maple, and Black Walnut. Species availability varies by season and inventory. Contact us for current stock.
Yes. Our rough cut timbers are sold at or very near full nominal size — an 8x8 is actually close to 8"×8". This is a significant advantage over surfaced lumber, which is undersized. More material, more strength, more value per board foot.
We can mill timbers up to 30x30 inches in cross-section and 26 feet in length. For custom sizes, contact us — we can often accommodate with advance lead time.
Grade stamps from WCLIB (West Coast Lumber Inspection Bureau) are available on request. This is required for many commercial and permitted projects. Specify grade stamp in your quote request.
FOH timber excludes the pith (center) of the log, dramatically reducing checking. It is required for some appearance-grade applications and preferred by architects. FOH adds $125/bf to the base price.
Shipping & Freight
Yes. We ship throughout the continental United States via flatbed freight carriers. Freight cost depends on total shipment weight, destination zip code, and freight class. Freight is always quoted separately and included in your final quote.
Yes — local pickup from our Arlington, WA mill yard is available and is the most economical option for customers in Western Washington. Call to schedule a pickup appointment.
Typical lead time from order confirmation to shipping is 5-10 business days for in-stock sizes. Custom sizes or large volume orders may require 2-3 weeks. We will confirm timeline with your quote.
Yes. We export Douglas Fir timbers internationally — primarily to Japan, Europe, Australia, and Canada. FOH pricing at our mill is the starting point. We can facilitate phytosanitary certificates and work with your freight forwarder. Contact us for export inquiries.
Rough cut structural timbers typically ship as NMFC Class 60 or 70. We provide complete bill of lading documentation. For large orders, full truckload (FTL) is significantly more economical than LTL.
Technical & Structural
Select Structural: Fb=1,500 psi, Fv=170 psi, E=1,600,000 psi. No. 1: Fb=1,200 psi, Fv=170 psi, E=1,600,000 psi. Apply wet service factor CM=0.85 for green timber. See our full specifications page for complete NDS Table 4D values.
Absolutely. Douglas Fir has a long history in timber bridge construction. We supply timbers to highway, agricultural, and pedestrian bridge projects. Reference AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications for highway bridges. We can supply in sizes required for stringers, decking, and bents.
Yes. Our rough cut Douglas Fir is appropriate for structural applications including post-and-beam framing, barn construction, bridge construction, pergolas, and any application where structural timber is specified. Grade stamps are available for permitted projects.
We produce and sell Coast Douglas Fir — grown west of the Cascade Mountains. Coast DF has higher density, higher design values, and is the species preferred by structural engineers and international buyers worldwide. It is distinct from the lesser Interior Douglas Fir designation.
Live Edge Slabs
We carry Douglas Fir ($8/bf), Maple ($16/bf), Spalted Maple ($20/bf), and Black Walnut ($28/bf). All slabs are 3 inches thick and available in lengths from 5-17 feet and widths from 24-44 inches.
Slab dimensions depend on available log inventory. We cannot guarantee specific widths — each slab is unique. Submit a quote request with your desired dimensions and we will confirm what is available or when similar pieces are expected.
Common applications include dining tables, restaurant and bar tops, reception desks, conference tables, fireplace mantels, countertops, and wall shelving. The live edge (natural edge of the tree) is preserved on one or both sides, creating a unique piece impossible to replicate.
Yes — we regularly supply slabs for commercial restaurant, brewery, and hospitality projects. For large commercial orders or ongoing supply, contact us to discuss project timelines and inventory planning.
